Holding It Together: Glue in Violin Making

An overview of modern and historical glues, application methods and how to avoid getting stuck

William will present an overview of some of the best traditional glues, along with the ethics of modern synthetic glues. He will share his strategies to reduce the pressure and stress when gluing, and having a good success rate.

William had a passion for violin making from an early age, and started his studies at Merton College aged 16. Straight after graduating he gained a place at J.P. Guivier in London where he spent almost five years honing his skills to maintain the rigorous standards that the workshop and instruments demand. He then moved to south Manchester to start his own business, with an emphasis on adapting to the current needs of players. After running a thriving shop, he now works in the Peak District, focusing more on making instruments.
